A 21-year-old British man was sentenced to four weeks in jail for sending an anti-Semitic tweet to a Jewish member of Parliament.
Garron Helm pleaded guilty Monday to sending the offending message to Labour Party member Luciana Berger. In addition to the jail sentence, Helm was ordered to pay Berger $128.
The tweet, which called Berger a “communist Jewess,” showed a photograph of her with a Holocaust yellow star photoshopped onto her forehead and the words, “You can always count on a Jew to show their true colours eventually.” It had the hashtag “Hitler was right.”
Helm’s home contained Nazi memorabilia and a flag for an extremist right-wing group called National Action.
“This sentence sends a clear message that hate crime is not tolerated in our country,” Berger said in a statement. “I hope this case serves as an encouragement to others to report hate crime whenever it rears its ugly head.”

Anyone who cannot take criticism and ridicile or even insults has no business being in politics or public life at all. Mr. Helm should be a hero to all who treasure freedom above all other values. I say repeal all laws infringing upon the right to speak freely about any and every topic. Bad ideas do not need to be forbidden. Some bad ideas, like “the earth is not the center of the universe” turn out to be true. Heretics like Copernicus and Galileo won out over the flat earthers a long time ago, and historical revisions of twentieth century history may well win out also.

Anyone who wants to support Garron Helm should make a disposable twitter account and post “communist jew” to her @lucianaberger,maybe even use the yellow star picture and hashtag #HitlerWasRight if you are so inclined. DO NOT send threats or mention violence, simply use the words and type of picture Garron Helm was imprisoned for using. You will be able to find examples easily by searching the #FreeGarronHelm hashtag results. Garron Helm’s friends and supporters are not taking this lying down. If you are American,it is especially important that you get involved. These “don’t criticize the jews” laws are being drafted RIGHT NOW in Canada,something not mentioned in this article. They WILL come to America very soon unless we all stand up together NOW.
Those of us who support Garron are asking for his immediate release and the deportation of Luciana Berger to Israel where she can do no further damage to Britain.
