Thank you Mark once again! We appreciate your effort tremendously. This fight takes its toll, it affects everything, time, nerves, family, energy, relationships. I don’t know why this happens, but it’s a fact.
Nevertheless, I think you mentioned the USS Liberty on the broadcast. I just finished reading Operation Cyanide by Peter Hounam and I was wandering what was your opinion about that book.
ed note–Dr. Bogdan,’Operation Cyanide’ is, in my humble opinion, the BEST over view of the reasons behind the LIBERTY attack. While other books go into the who, what, where, when, how etc, OC goes into the WHY, and is something which I reference often, which was/is the desire on the part of Israel and America to drive the Russians out of the Middle East.

Prof. Mark, what I do not understand is why did they cancel plans? Why didn’t they sink the Liberty? Why was the air attack on Cairo called off and who did it, McNamara, LBJ? The book implies in a way that Moshe Daian could have had a role in this.
Anyway, if these people were 3 minutes away from nuking Cairo in the 60’s it means that they are completely insane. Of course we, the TUTs, already knew that.

Many years ago when I was doing research into the LIBERTY attack, I came to know a high-ranking US Navy Intelligence Officer who had intimate knowledge of what took place that day, who had done his own research into the issue and who was part of a group of US intelligence personnel from within various branches of the military as well as people within the CIA, NSA. and others who recognized just how close we all came that day to biting the big one and who did what they could on ‘their own time’ to leak pieces of information about what happened that day in the interests of bringing some ‘closure’ to the issue.
What he told me is that at the very moment that the F4 Phantons were in the air headed to Cairo with orders to nuke it that the Soviet Premier Kosygin personally phoned Johnson on the ‘red line’ and warned him that the Russians knew what was going on and that there was a nuclear-armed submarine sitting off the coast of Haifa awaiting orders to turn Israel into a sheet of glass if the planes weren’t recalled. Obviously, the warning had the intended effect, along with the fact that–by the grace of God–the LIBERTY did not sink. Had the evil-doers been successful that day in sinking the ship, we would all be living in a much different world than we are now, assuming of course that we would even be alive.
