Republican candidate has denied rash of sexual misconduct allegations, and his wife held a press conference on Friday to defend him

Roy Moore, the Republican candidate from Alabama accused of preying on teenage girls when he was in his 30s, trails his Democratic rival in the race for the crucial Senate seat, according to the latest polls.

A Gravis survey published on Friday had Moore, a 70-year-old former state supreme court judge and hard-line conservative, trailing Democrat Doug Jones, a 63-year-old US Attorney, by 47 percent to 42%.

A Fox News poll on Thursday put Jones at 50% and Moore at 42%, while a local Fox 10 poll had Jones up 49-43.

The polls had margins of error of between two and 3.5 percentage points.

Before The Washington Post published the first allegations against Moore, the Republican was heavily favored to win the December 12 election in the state where Republican Donald Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton by nearly 28 points.

Moore has denied the allegations against him and his wife held a press conference on Friday to defend her husband.

“He will not step down,” Kayla Moore told reporters in Montgomery, Alabama. “He will not stop fighting for the people of Alabama.

“In his words and I quote, “I will not stop until they lay me in that box in the ground,” she said.

The Senate election, being held to replace Jeff Sessions, who was named attorney general, has national repercussions because Republicans hold only a slim 52-48 majority in the chamber.

A number of Senate Republicans, including majority leader Mitch McConnell, have called on Moore to quit the race, but he has adamantly refused to do so.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Friday that the president finds the allegations against Moore “extremely troubling” but that it was up to the people of Alabama to decide.

  1. It was 40 F’ing years ago! When the guy was 30. There’s no way to prove what happened. Let’s get real here.
In the US, rape has a statute of limitations in roughly half the state of around 10 years or less.
In many other states, there is no statute of limitations.
“Preying on teenage girls”? What does that mean and where are the girls’ depositions?
I truly hate most republikans with a passion, but put up or shut up.

  2. What I find very disturbing is that it’s now Dems and Neocons who do all the talking about vote fraud and stolen elections. Before the Presidential election it was Trumpers and anti-Zionists who believed that systemic vote fraud was a reality in US elections. The clearly spooked Dems and the even more spooked corporate Zio-media kept telling them they were a disgrace for calling the integrity of the voting process into question. Now the shoe is completely on the other foot.
I have a theory that the Deep State only let Trump win because they feared that a rigged Clinton victory would radicalise many right-wingers (and anti-Zionist anti-Clinton leftists) and make them deeply sceptical about the validity of US elections. That is one “conspiracy theory” they truly dread taking hold. Having known some Oklahomans over the years I’m having a very hard time believing that a radical Lesbian feminist Dem triumphed in a congressional district of Oklahoma that voted for Trump by a margin of forty per cent. Other recent American election results also seem very implausible.
So if Moore loses to Jones I don’t think there’s any reason to take it at face value. After all the Democrats and Neocon Republicans now insist that the Presidential poll was rigged – and we should all know by now that projection is the very essence of the Zio-Deep State game: in other words they accuse others of the crimes they habitually commit themselves. A very simple but deadly effective black propaganda technique.

  3. TonyFromN: “There is voter fraud. It’s called gerrymandering…”
Yes, but it’s not the only kind, and vote rigging is not just an American phenomenon by the way – it happens throughout the West and there’s plenty of hard evidence to prove this.
