In Israel, we understand what a free Iran could mean for the region — the possibility of peace, and the end of a regime that has posed a threat to Israel for decades.

This Saturday, hundreds of thousands, and possibly millions, of Iranians around the world will gather in major cities to protest the Islamic Republic regime and its brutal crackdown on nationwide unrest that has left thousands dead.

Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi issued the call last week for mass demonstrations across the globe on February 14, designating the date a ‘Global Day of Action’ in support of what he has termed Iran’s ‘Lion-and-Sun Revolution.’

Addressing Iranians still inside the country in a social media message on Thursday, Pahlavi said: ‘On February 14, the Global Day of Action, Iranians abroad will once again take to the streets to carry the voice of our great and united nation to the world and to mobilize broader international support.’

He also urged people inside Iran to participate from within the country, encouraging them to chant from their homes and rooftops on the evenings of February 14 and 15 at 8 p.m. ‘Raise your voices and chant from your homes and rooftops. Shout your demands. Show your unity,’ he said.

Praising what he described as the courage and resilience of Iranians, Pahlavi said memorial gatherings for those killed, nightly rooftop chants, and messages sent at great personal risk had shown that the Islamic Republic had failed to crush the public’s determination, despite sustained brutality and repression.

To the brave people of Iran, know that Israel supports you

The rally in Munich is particularly significant, as Pahlavi is set to address the 62nd Munich Security Conference, which is taking place in the city over the weekend.

While Israel has kept a relatively low public profile in its support for the Iranian protests, with some rallies taking place in Holon, there is little doubt that the Israeli public stands firmly behind the protesters.

That support has also been visible at demonstrations around the world. Alongside the Lion and Sun flag, the most prominent banner at many rallies has been the State of Israel flag, flying openly and proudly.

In Israel, we understand what a free Iran could mean for the region — the possibility of peace, and the end of a regime that has posed a threat to Israel for decades.

Though we cannot be there in person in Munich, Los Angeles, or Toronto this Saturday, Iranians should know that Israel and Israelis are with them, behind them, and supporting them in their quest for freedom.
