Also note that the word for divorce is ‘ghet’, the root of the word ‘ghetto’. In the interests of playing the sympathy/guilt card, Christians are constantly accused of forcing Jews to live in ghettos throughout history, but the truth is that Jews did this of their own accord, ‘divorcing’ themselves from Christian society which they considered to be inferior and polluted.

Three New York men were sentenced for violently attempting to coerce a man into granting his wife a religious divorce.

Avrohom Goldstein, Ariel Potash and Sholom Schuchat were sentenced Thursday in a federal court in New Jersey in connection to a 2013 incident in which they planned to use physical force to pressure a man to grant his wife a ghet, or religious writ of divorce.

An Orthodox woman cannot remarry without receiving a ghet from her husband. The women who are trapped in such marriages are called agunot, or “chained women.”
