SPUTNIK – Trump may harrumph about the Saudis needing to pay for military protection, but US imperialist planners know all too well that American hegemonic ambitions in the oil-rich Middle East are totally dependent on Washington ensuring that the House of Saud remains propped up.
That’s partly because of the decades-old petrodollar system worked out between the US and Saudi Arabia in which the world’s top oil producer swore to always nominate the dollar as the currency for global energy trade. If the petrodollar system were to collapse, from say a political implosion of Saudi Arabia, then the American economy would also crash.
Washington, as Trump seems to misunderstand, is not giving military protection to Saudi Arabia as some kind of benevolent act of kindness. American military power shoring up the Saudi monarchs is a necessary linchpin for US geopolitical survival. CONTINUE READING

President Trump was interviewed via telephone last night (Oct. 11, 2018) on the Shannon Bream show on Fox and he stated clearly that our “business” with SA (meaning the military hardware they’re buying from us) will preclude us from cutting ties with SA. It is to be determined what Trump’s rhetoric and bluster regarding Saudi,of late, actually mean.
I can say that there is not one “news” item (mainstream, Sputnik, or otherwise) on this topic that I’ve read and not one youtube video I’ve seen, that mentions that Jamal Khashoggi is related to Adnan Khashoggi (now deceased) who was a notorious Saudi arms dealer/criminal.
So that tells me that this whole cockamamee story is cover for something else that went down. Was Jamal Khashoggi a double agent? Did the Saudis know Jamal Khashoggi was feeding the U.S. intel? Probably. How the Saudis got him to willingly enter a Saudi consulate is unknown.
