A French court closed a year long case last week against a provocative French comedian and political activist. Dieudonné M’bala M’bala, who goes simply by Dieudonne, was ordered to pay 130,000 euros (approx. $150,000) in compensation to the family of Jewish singer and French Holocaust survivor, Barbara, for a parody of her song “L’Aigle Noir” (The Black Eagle) (Dieudonné’s parody was titled “The Black Rat.”) Barbara, born Monique Serf, passed away in 1997.
According to the Times of Israel, last July, the High Court of Paris ruled in favor of Barbara’s estate, led by Bernard Serf, the singer’s nephew, who had sued Dieudonné , “accusing him of using anti-Semitic imagery to ‘humiliate’ the late singer.” In “The Black Eagle,” Barbara discusses some of the darkest moments from her past, including the incestuous abuse she suffered as a child. Dieudonné’s parody mocked the singer, describing her as “crazy” and “senile.”
Barbara demanded that the parody video be immediately removed from the Internet and that financial reparations be made. Dieudonné was initially fined 50,000 euros and another 1,300 for each day the video remained online. But in July the comedian appealed, “not only claiming his song was a legitimate parody, but simultaneously delaying the removal of the video.” The final figure of 130,000 is a product of this year long delay.
Dieudonné, a highly divisive figure in French society, is no stranger to accusations of anti-semitism, both for his controversial statements and for his style of comedy. The Times of Israel reports:

I was going to translate an article describing the Black Eagle/Black Rat affair but then I ran out of time and dropped it. The lyrics of the Jewish singer’s song, The Black Eagle, are a “poetic” reference to her being abused as a child by her own father. He is the “Black Eagle” who descended from the sky to molest her over and over. This is a very Jewish theme not only because incest appears to be higher among Jews than among other groups (except maybe isolated and uneducated communities in Appalachia or elsewhere) bit also because it uses the very Freudian image of the eagle as the symbol of the male sex, and Freudian terms are household words in this well-“analyzed” ethnic group.
Dieudonne’s parody made it all about a “black rat,” which to him seemed a more appropriate choice for the dirty crime of incest than the lofty eagle. The actual suit, despite the verbiage about his alleged “anti-semitism” and his using the symbol of the rat, oy, vey, the very animal the Nazis used to compare the Jews to, focused not on this being a “hate crime” (which it clearly is not), but on a being… plagiarism insofar as he had appropriated the melody and had made money on selling the videos based on the late singer’s name recognition.

I agree with you Isaac. Can’t even say to a jew you are giving me bad service otherwise be called anti semite. There is this supermarket, close to where I live. I made it a point to make sure there were not jews in the area when I moved into my new home. Well they went to this supermarket, where the jew stood outside and said to the media there are no kosher products in this store. Well of course the store stocked kosher goods in his store this was 3 yrs ago and not one jew shopped there. The manager said to me what a joke, I could be using these shelves with what my customers actually want. It is a profit loss to me. I used to live amongst them (unknowingly) but boy did I find out I did not want to live amongst them. I will not deal with anyone I know who is a jew.
