Kiryas Joel, NY – Federal prosecutors say a New York slaughterhouse that supplies kosher chicken to Orthodox Jews discharged chicken parts and other waste into storm drains and sewers.

The U.S. attorney’s office announced a civil lawsuit and proposed settlement Thursday. It said the Kiryas Joel Poultry Processing Plant Inc. admitted violating the federal Clean Water Act between 2008 and 2012.

The company agreed to pay a $330,000 fine, devise a corrective plan and record its future operations.

An official with the Environmental Protection Agency said the plant in Orange County disposed of chicken parts directly into storm drains and polluted two tributaries of the Ramapo River.

The settlement will not be final for 30 days to allow public comment

  1. Certainly this Kosher Slaughter House is not the only corporation to pollute the atmosphere.
But it is apropos though. Anything to save a buck!
The $330,000 fine is more than likely a drop in the bucker. Compared to the money they saved in proper disposal and environmental costs put onto the environment.
    They win again! For now.
