ed note–assuming that this is an accurate statement, i.e. that all the translations were done accurately and weren’t ‘spiced up’ like the JMSM’s translation of former Iranian Pres. Ahmadinejad’s ‘wipe Israel off the map’ statement, it suggests some very interesting implications.

Despite the poetic and metaphor-rich language that is infamously part of the Middle Eastern mind and its accompanying language, nevertheless the White House being ‘destroyed in 10 minutes’ pretty much seems to mean one thing and one thing only–a WMD of some type going off in DC, and therefore, It may be–likely or unlikely as it is–that the reluctance on the part of the US to ‘deal’ with Iran in the same the way that she has dealt with Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, etc, is this very scenario, not as a result of Iranian nukes, but rather those of other countries whose interests lie in keeping Iran intact an reigning in the US, such as the Russians, Chinese or even Pakistanis.

Let’s face it, when has America EVER dealt with another nation based upon such notions as ‘international law’ or ‘sovereignty of nations’? America understands one thing and one thing only–the barrel of a gun, and it may very well be that the US understands that a war with Iran means a war with any one or all of the aforementioned players and has decided therefore that it is ‘bridge too far’.

Times of Israel

An Iranian newspaper affiliated with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that the White House would be “destroyed in under 10 minutes” were Iran’s nuclear facilities to come under attack, implied that the US was “on its deathbed” and argued that a nuclear deal with the US-led world powers would contradict the Quran, the media watchdog MEMRI reported.

“Let us have faith that America is incapable of any misstep [against Iran], and that it cannot even attack Iranian facilities without the White House being destroyed in under 10 minutes,” the editorial said, according to MEMRI. “Let us have faith that the old ‘village leader’ [i.e. the US] has fallen onto his deathbed, and that even in his youth, he never made the mistake [of daring to attack Iran], and that he, like Israel, remains mired in quicksand.”

The conservative, Khamenei-linked Iranian daily Kayhan published the comments in a June 17 editorial, MEMRI said Friday.

The Kayhan editorial said Iran was currently in a situation similar to that of the early battles of Islam, when Muhammad won the Battle of Badr and annihilated the Jews of Khaybar, MEMRI said. The newspaper called on the Iranian nation to use the month of Ramadan to redeem Islam, “which is entangled by the Jews’ deception” and by the trickery of the US – “The Great Satan” – and Britain – “the wily fox.”

Criticizing former president Hashemi Rafsanjani and current President Hassan Rouhani for seeking to reach a nuclear agreement with the US, the editorial said such attempts contradict the Quranic order against making pacts with the enemy.

  1. And the source for this information is “The Times of Israel”.
Well then of course it is reliable, the Mossad is known for its’ accuracy and reliability. It is built into its’ motto.
ed note–no, the source of the quote is the Iranian daily newspaper Kayhan, considered a ‘conservative’ media outlet in that it supports the positions of the religious regime running things in Iran. The original story appears here–

  2. I always felt the next major advancement in the English speaking world would be word craft and sure enough, most English speakers imagination has been far outpaced by the imagery, supplied to their brains for processing. This latest affront to Washington omnipotence must leave our warrior citizens purple. Heres my mea culpa, got to check under the bed more often too.

  3. I have just clicked on the site and chose the Persian version of Kayhan. There is absolutely nothing about any threat, and no reference to White House, let alone in 10 minutes. Absolute fabrication
ed note–the very first paragraph of the link reads thus–
‘Let us have faith that America is incapable of any misstep (against Iran), and that it cannot even attack Iranian facilities without the White House being destroyed in under 10 minutes,” the editorial said.’

Hardly what you would call objective.
When you look at Kayhan you see that it was reported ion July 12 after the Times of Israel report. It says “An Iranian newspaper has warned” , not that Kayhan originated or reported it, only reporting an editorial in another newspaper.
To me it really smells of disinformation.

  5. I am very fluent in Persian and I can assure you that the English version you quote from does not appear anywhere. The fact that this article is alleged to have been publishes a month ago but surfaced now should give you a clue.
