Israel in Top 10 Countries for Gay Men

After polling 115,000 men in 127 countries, gay dating site Planet Romeo released their list called The Gay Happiness index. Israel ranked number seven for gay men to live in, following Canada at number six.

The gay owned and operated website collaborated with researchers from Germany’s Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz to execute the survey, focusing on three main topics: public opinion, public behaviour and life satisfaction. It also included how much each country has improved, or worsened in the last year.

Israel had a general happiness rating of 71%.

When it came to public opinion – how gay men in the country feel society views them – there was a 69% happiness rating. For public behaviour – the way gays are treated in the country – Israel had a 71% happiness rating. For overall life satisfaction the country got a 74% rating.

The general consensus was that things have improved for gay men within Israel in the last year.

Considering the progression Israel has seen in the past few years the high ranking may not be a surprise to some. Last year they named their first Conservative Gay Rabbi shortly after they allowed the same citizenship rights to homosexuals as they offer to heterosexuals.

According to the results, 27 of the 30 least-happy countries are in Africa and the Middle East.

The top ten list is as follows: Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Uruguay, Canada, Israel, Netherlands, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
