Israeli museum under fire for exhibition that slanders Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary

ed note–as anyone who has been to the Middle East can testify, including (or perhaps ESPECIALLY) in Iran, one would never, ever, NEVERFREAKINGEVER find such a thing in an Islamic country, and if someone were stupid enough to try something like this, the BEST that would happen to them would be a stiff prison sentence.

The display of art pieces mocking Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary inside a museum in Israel’s city of Haifa caused uproar among the Christians and Muslims who protested it for mocking a religious symbol.

Entitled ‘Sacred Goods’, the exhibition features Jesus Christ as both Ronald McDonald and as a Ken doll, while the Virgin Mary was depicted as a Barbie doll.

Christians and Muslims who found the artwork offensive took to the streets to protest it, urging officials to immediately take them down.

Israeli police cracked down on hundreds of protesters using stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowds, triggering scuffles, reports said.

Christians slammed the sculpture for mocking Jesus Christ, while a Haifa Catholic Church leader condemned it.

‘What is suitable for Europe is not suitable for us,’ the pastor of Haifa’s Saint Elijah Cathedral said.

Meanwhile, the Rev. Archimandrite Agapious Abu Sa’ada of the Greek Melkite Catholic Archeparchy of Acre told Haaretz that they denounce the exhibition and ‘injury to the holiest symbol of Christianity by an institution that is supposed to serve citizens of all religions.’

It also demanded an apology for sponsoring such an event.

The Islamic-Christian Commission in Support of Jerusalem and the Holy Sites also condemned the exhibition, calling it ‘an obvious mockery of the image of Jesus Christ and his mother, the Virgin Mary, and an insult to all the heavenly religions and beliefs,’ as reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The group underscored that such incidents would ‘deepen animosity and hatred among people and provoke religious strife.’

Following protests, the museum has put up a sign at the entrance of the exhibit, saying that it contains ‘potentially offensive’ pieces.
