There’s a death for any non-Jew who reads this Torah. Today’s Christian should recognize that these people do not have a covenant with the God of the bible. They have a covenant with Death and Hell.
A BURNING LAMP THAT PASSED BETWEEN – Genesis 15:17 (17:1)
“And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a
smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE IN COVENANT WITH GOD? The understanding that
we will be like those pieces if we break covenant with God but going through
those pieces we remain one with God. Hosea 6:5 (Luke 12:46/Matthew 24:51);
“Therefore have I hewed (cut) them by the prophets; I have slain them by the
words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.”
These are those who have transgressed this covenant. Their hedge has been
removed. Abraham was not seeking God. God sought Abraham and led him
through things in life to bring him to seek God. Abraham was asleep but he
willed to know and love God during this. This is what God wants in our lives. A
will to know him and to love him (Proverbs 18:24). Like Abraham, we too have
been asleep but deep down want to know more. God walked through himself to
make a covenant for both Abraham and God. God did the same for us with the
Lord Jesus Christ. We walk with covenant if we receive this covenant oath to
place him in our life. With covenant everything I have is the Lords and the Lord
bestows his blessings on me. We are one. We have died to everything we have
to have God’s covenant for we have the same identity as God’s.
What happens when we break covenant with God? The curse not only extends
in our lives but the lives of those generations after us. This is serious business
(Deuteronomy 28:15-)!
The whole bible is about the covenant of God. Old and New. Genesis 15:7-18
(17:1-10), God told Abram that he would give him the land and that was a sign
he would know this covenant. Abram was to walk before the Lord and be
blameless, THEN, God was going to bless him with all that was God’s blessings.
God told him this if he would only keep his agreement of covenant. Now, God
changed his name: Abram to Abraham. God gave him part of his name: Yahweh
and God took Abraham’s name. The God of Abraham.
We keep covenant by walking in it. We do the things that God has told us to do
in his word (Genesis 17:9). Genesis 18:19, is showing that we are keeping the
way by this.
