Survey conducted by InterNations network shows 1.5 million expatriates who live in foreign countries think israelis are one of world’s most innovative and outgoing population, with US and Brazil trailing behind.

HONG KONG – While tourism to Israel continues to drop, the country is apparently seen as one of the liveliest and most thrilling places in the world.

A survey conducted by the InterNations network among 1.5 million of its members – expatriates who live or work in foreign countries – reveals that they perceive Israel as having the most dynamic population in the world, leaving countries like the United States and Brazil far behind.

In the Asia and Oceania region, Israelis are considered the most dynamic people by far, followed by Hong Kong and Singapore. Other countries which topped the list in the region include Australia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. Myanmar, India, Japan and Saudi Arabia are seen as more traditional.

The organization asked its members living in 390 cities around the world to rate the local population’s tendency towards innovation or tradition, and whether the residents are reserved or outgoing. The respondents were also asked to what extent the society they live in is vibrant, dynamic, open to new ideas and initiates things.

The responses were measured according to a rating scale of one to seven and combined to a single measure.

The US was selected as the country with the most dynamic culture on the American continent, while Spain came in first among European countries. The Germans are perceived as the most aloof and rational in the world. The Swiss, Norwegians and Finns are also considered highly rational.

In general, the northern European countries lead in rationality, while southern European citizens are considered more open: Apart from Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal that were also ranked high in dynamism. Interestingly, Russia – which had commonly been considered to have a cool and emotionless society for years – received high grades for dynamism among its foreign residents, almost like Brazil.

In the American continent there is a clear contrast between north and south as well: The US was ranked as the most dynamic culture while Costa Rica is considered the most traditional one.

In the African continent, most countries are perceived as quite traditional, especially Angola and Ghana. Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, however, ranked particularly high in dynamism after turning into the continent’s main regional growth engine in recent years.
