Right-wing Swedish nationalists plan 'pride' march through Muslim area

I24NEWS – Right-wing Swedish nationalists are planning a gay pride march through areas of Stockholm where Muslims make up the majority of the population.

The march, called ‘Pride Järva,’ is scheduled to take place on July 29, and will pass through the neighborhoods of Tensta and Husby in the north of the city.

According to the event’s Facebook page, the march will include public “kissing” and is being organized by Jan Sjunnesson, the former editor of the far-right newspaper, the Samtiden, which puts forward the views of the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats.

The Sweden Democrats are known for their anti-immigration policies and criticisms of what it calls the “Homosex Lobby”, leading opponents to believe that the march is being organized purely to cause trouble.

Two residents of the Jarva area, Noah Nord and Emelie Mårtensson, claim that the event “pits two oppressed groups against each other,” and have organized a counter-demonstration.

Renowned atheist Richard Dawkins appeared to originally support the march, saying on Twitter that claims that the march was racism were symptomatic of the “pathetic Left”. However he appeared to tamper his enthusiasm upon learning that the event was organized by a far-right group.
