The Holy Land as you’ve never seen it before: Some of the earliest images ever taken of the Sea of Galilee and Jerusalem emerge after selling for £1MILLION 

  • A collection of 1,000 photographs of the Holy Land from the 19th century have sold for almost £1 million at auction

  • The images feature historic landmarks such as Mount Zion, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Jewish cemetery 

  • Also there are fascinating photographs of people living in the area from the 1860s such as Bedouins and Arabs

  • Auctioneers Sotheby’s thought the collection would only fetch £300,000, but strong bidding pushed up the price
