Feds got involved because State of New York’s efforts to investigate where stymied by legislators and their “outside employers”.
“The prosecutors, from the office of the United States attorney, Preet Bharara, and the F.B.I. agents were seeking to determine precisely what Mr. Silver, a Manhattan Democrat, has been doing for the payments…”
This Preet Bharara leads what he claims is “the most aggressive and successful criminal prosecutor’s office in the USA specializing in white collar crimes.” Based on what I have seen since 2009, he doesn’t seem to show much favoritism toward Jews, or toward his fellow Indians. He led the insider trading prosecutions of Raj Rajaratnam (who was the head of a major hedge fund) and Rajat Gupta, (former head of McKinsey and Company) and claims to have never lost a criminal insider trading prosecution.
Unfortunately Mr. Bharara dares not go after the really big fish like Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan-Chase, or Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs.
And — on the major downside — Bharara says his top priority is protecting Americans from the threat of “terrorism.” He secured a life sentence without possibility of parole for Faisal Shahzad, the so-called “Times Square bomber” who supposedly ignited an alleged car bomb that did not explode. (That entire case stinks of entrapment. When will these “terrorists” learn that the only way to accomplish mass destruction is with box cutters, like the 9-11 “hijackers”?)
Mr. Bharara said that Mr. Shahzad was part of the “Pakistani Taliban.”

Sigh.
Sometimes politicians and judges seem almost human….until you look closer.
