The Conservative candidate to be London Mayor, Zac Goldsmith (jew) has been criticised by a Labour MP for past remarks in which he compared the conditions on pig farms to Auschwitz.
Mr Goldsmith, said he would only eat organic meat and remarked on the state of slaughtered pigs which he said were “riddled with tumours”.
The Tory MP for Richmond Park and North Kensington said: “I don’t particularly want a plate of grilled tumours which has come from a pig tortured under Auschwitz-like conditions.”
His comments – in an interview with the Telegraph in 2000 – were attacked by Labour MP Michael Dugher, who called on Mr Goldsmith to apologise. The Auschwitz remark was referenced in reports a fortnight ago when Mr Goldsmith visited a McDonalds restaurant.
Mr Dugher, Labour Friends of Israel vice-chair, said: “Zac Goldsmith lives in another world. If he only wants to eat locally sourced organic food – and he can afford it – that’s up to him.
“But to make comments comparing pig farms and Auschwitz is clearly grossly insensitive and I’m sure decent Londoners, including in the Jewish community, will find his comments offensive.
“I think he should apologise.”
A spokesperson for Mr Goldsmith said: “Zac is well known for his numerous campaigns to improve animal welfare. Labour’s cynical attempt to score political points is pathetic. London simply can’t afford a four year Corbyn-Khan experiment and their approach to politics.
He must have read Orwell’s PIG FARM.
