Secretary of Defense James Mattis on Monday called for the international community to help end the war in Afghanistan and aid regional leaders in their efforts to bridge longstanding disagreements, saying that conflicts in Afghanistan have now gone on for “40 years.”

“In Afghanistan, it’s gone on now it’s approaching 40 years; 40 years is enough and it’s time for everyone to get on board, support the United Nations, support Prime Minister Modi, support President Ghani and all those who are trying to maintain peace and make for a better world here. So, we are on that track,” Mattis told reporters ahead of a meeting with his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman.

The U.S. has had a military presence in Afghanistan for 17 years, since 2001, when it removed the Taliban government from power, but Afghanistan has been in conflict since the late 1970s when U.S.-backed Afghan guerillas repelled the Soviet Union from the country in a nine-year battle.

Since the U.S. has had a presence, however, troops have been bogged down in an insurgency waged by the Taliban and other armed groups.

Mattis noted that the U.S. is currently concerned over the influence of Pakistan-based armed groups that have clashed with U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

“The presence of U.S. troops in Afghanistan has also heightened U.S. sensitivity to the rivalry between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan. Washington and New Delhi share concerns over Pakistan-based anti-Western and anti-Indian Islamist militant groups,” he said, according to the Afghan media outlet Tolo News.

  1. typical thing for an “Owned By Jews”™ figurehead to say,no?
because jews are peace loving people, the core “jewish values”™, definitely not warmongers.

  2. The U.S. has had a military presence in Afghanistan for 17 years, since 2001, when it removed the Taliban government from power, but Afghanistan has been in conflict since the late 1970s when U.S.-backed Afghan guerillas repelled the Soviet Union from the country in a nine-year battle.

What the un-esteemed Judas neglects to mention is that the US is the one who forced the Soviet Union into Afghanistan in the first place. Just like his counterpart decades ago, who did the same thing to the bring the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor by cutting off their oil supplies. And also after Japan surrendered, to drop 2 atomic bombs on civilians…
    Oh, enough is enough…

  3. “The U.S. has had a military presence in Afghanistan for 17 years, since 2001, when it removed the Taliban government from power,….”
Uh, wait a minute. Wasn’t that big old baddie Osama Bin Laden hiding out in the caves with his laptop computer directing the September 11, 2001 attacks?! Isn’t that why the U.S. went to Afghanistan? To get Osama Bin Laden? You know…the guy that kept slipping out the U.S. military’s grasp and out of the grasp of our much vaunted ((‘intelligence’)) agencies? If only the ((deep state)) hadn’t locked up its best asset, Jonathan Pollard. But THEN, our fearless leader Osamabama was able to get that slippery fellow and have him buried at sea. Thank goodness…one less terrorist to worry about in this 100 year war.
Wait…wait..MAYBE, just MAYBE it was because “Poppy” Bush’s idiot son was listening to Cheney and Rumsfeld (part of the U.S. ‘stay-behind’ crew from the 1970s) who wanted to make a little do-re-mi from the poppy fields and the Taliban wanted too big a cut?
An NOW, it just so happens Poppy Bush just croaked. So, who else wants a piece of the action in Afghanistan now that the Sackler family has gone into China having taken with them their billions on opioid peddling in the U.S.?
Here is that moron, George “Dubya” just having a grand ol’ time.

  4. All that blood and treasure fighting essentially primitive tribesmen armed with ancient AK 47s,plus improvised explosives, and only now they come to this conclusion :/ ,is this admission of defeat,’well we can conclude that it is,but it has to be said that the US had nearly routed the Taliban in the early part of the war ,when the ziocons thought it be a good idea to get their zio American century plan up and running and decided to use lies and deception to fool the American people, whose blood was up after 911,to attack a non aggressor nation, that being Iraq, this decided resources and also convinced over s billion Muslims that these aggressive acts were part of a greater crusader war against Islam, and this is the world your arch zios Paul Wolfawitz and co created .The Afghan war could be ended, but they would need the help of Russia, who recently had organised a meeting meeting between warring parties, except for America, who did not want to take part, bruised egos I guess ,personally I would say an inept diplomatic branch, plus a crazed Russophobic ultra liberal establishment who would rather this dumb war go on and on,than treat Russia as an equal ,who just might have a working solution End this mad war..P.S. Who is the international community??, Vassal states like western Europe and Japan, plus all those poor countries that were traditionally bought off or blackmailed by threats to have their aid cut :/..
