Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu makes a point as he addresses a joint meeting of Congress in Washington
Seven-term senator from Vermont called the speech, planned for March 3, ‘a tawdry and high-handed stunt that has embarrassed not only Israel but the Congress itself.’

Senator Patrick Leahy, a key U.S. Senate Democrat and the chamber’s most senior member, said Tuesday that he would not attend Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned speech to Congress.

The seven-term senator from Vermont called the speech, arranged by House Speaker John Boehner and Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer, is “a tawdry and high-handed stunt that has embarrassed not only Israel but the Congress itself.”

Leahy joins an increasingly long list of lawmakers who are planning to boycott the speech. According to The Hill news website, more than a dozen congressional Democrats are planning to skip the address. Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent, announced on Monday he won’t attend.

The speech has created a diplomatic brouhaha in Washington, with many observers calling it a breach of diplomatic protocol because the invitation was not coordinated with President Barack Obama.

“The president of the United States heads up our foreign policy and the idea that the president wasn’t even consulted – that is wrong and not a good thing for our country,” USA Today quoted Sanders as saying at a Monday appearance at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank.

“I am not going. I may watch it on TV, but I’m not going.”

Leahy said that by unilaterally scheduling the speech without the White House’s input, House Republican leaders “demolished the potential constructive value of this joint meeting,” Politico reported.

  1. Bravo Patrick Leahy. In since 1974.This Democrat even befriended Republican Bush Sr,on taking on Israel. He stays low profile, but I think really knows the AIPAC Score. Lets just see how the Jews go after him. Call his office, and say THANK YOU. People, need tp know, they have support. This is tough1

  2. Yesterday, fellow Jew Bernie Sanders became the first senator to say he will not attend Netanyahu’s speech.

Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee and leading voice in the House, says he may not attend. Other Democrats I have heard will boycott the speech are…

    Reps. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon
    G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina
    James Clyburn of South Carolina
    Keith Ellison of Minnesta
    Raul Grijalva of Arizona
    Luis Gutierrez of Illinois
    Barbara Lee of California
    Betty McCollum of Minnesota
    Jim McDermott of Washington
    Gregory Meeks of New York
    John Lewis of Georgia
Charlie Rangel of New York and
Eleanor Holmes Norton of Washington DC.

Hats off to Raul Grijalva of Arizona. He’s a staunch liberal, but normally he is too soft on the Jews.

Obama says he will not meet with Netanyahu.

  3. I despise the jew ‘Netanyahu’, and I know what his name means. However, the only thing lower than this parasite jew is the vulgar democrats vowing to boycott the jew’s sales pitch in an effort to support “…dey black presidint”. If Obama were a man, and a real president, he wouldn ‘t have to threaten the cutting off of funds for the districts of these parasite democrats to get them to back him. But on the other hand, if the jew is successful, these parasite dimucrats will have a hell of a time getting co-operation after Obama has gone to his Hawaii hideout. The jew thinks the republicans will get the white house. and he is bettin’ the house on that…………….
