Russia’s / Putin’s Gazprom basically has a monopoly on selling gas to Europe. Gazprom is their foreign policy weapon. Russia needs Europe and Europe needs Russia but in 2006 Russia cut off energy to Ukraine.
The East Sea (aka South China Sea) is a very strategic region and it also has untapped energy reserves as well as tapped. Russia and China have been engaged in joint military exercises in this regions with more to follow. And Russia has been the weapons supplier to Viet Nam.
However, with the rising tensions in the East Sea, Viet Nam and other countries that are tense over China’s maneuvers, are becoming closer to the United States. Philippines adjusted the wording over US military bases, Viet Nam now has signed weapons / economic deals with the United States, and Putin had signed similar agreements with Viet Nam. Russia will also build Viet Nam’s first nuclear reactor, and Russia has already began delivery of military equipment to Viet Nam stemming from past deals.
China and Russia of course are working very closely on a number of regional and global issues as they both court their neighbors. The United States likewise is courting Asian countries and in particular South East Asia. Ha Noi even played the Star Spangled Banner when U.S. Defense Secretary paid a visit.
The West & Russia are and have been selling and delivering weapons to other countries. What the hell is wrong with these so called ‘leaders’? Their rational to save lives is to ink deals that promotes and sustains the weapons industries?
