March 21, 2015 will be a date that will mark the spirits. At the Basilica of Longpont, in Essonne, will be held from 15 am to 17 pm, a large Muslim-Christian gathering. It is indeed hand in hand and in the heart that united Christians and Muslims celebrate that which the Qur’an says: “And when the angels said, really O Mary, God has chosen you and purified; He has chosen you above the women of the Universe “(Qur’an, s 3, v. 42). Echoing almost word for word the terms of a Christian prayer:” He has chosen you among women “(pass recalling the words of Gabriel and St. Elizabeth in the Gospel of St Luke).

It was under the auspices of the Blessed Virgin Mary with that Ensemble will bring Christians and Muslims together. All are determined to show that many are the ties that bind us and are not just empty words.

At the heart of a troubled period, we must express our common solidarity. We melt without confusing us, give priority to respect and learn from each other are burning priorities. This is a reflection of our Lebanese brothers, initiators of this project and model of reconciliation, we, French Christians and Muslims unite our wills to show the world that living together is not a pipe dream or a hope unattainable.

Message of brotherhood yesterday and today

More than a belief, it is a certainty, living together is possible. All the sacred Scriptures grow there. The Qur’an says: “The Prophet is closer to the believers than they are for themselves; his wives are their mothers and parentage parents have priority over the believers and the emigrants (of Mecca) according to the Book of God unless you want to give your friends some generous propriety. All this is recorded in the Book “(Koran, s. 33, v. 6). The majority of scholars agree that here “friends” are the Jews and Christians. This verse, according to comments like the scientist Qurtubi even opened the possibility for Muslims to lie about their wills. Furthermore, it is specified that this was as good if they were not believers.

Another important moment in the history of Islam was the arrival of the Prophet in Medina. Situated opposite the obligation to fix the house rules, he wrote what became the first official law of Islam. This treaty will be named the Sahifa or ‘Ahd al-madina (“Pact of Medina”) and, much later, that of al-madina Dustur (“Constitution of Medina”). In it, the Prophet clearly states the equality of all citizens: in short, he established the Islamic fashion the concept of citizenship.

The balance of Ethics is clearly set as frame all relationships. Only the virtues and skills are paramount. Even today, it is this message of brotherhood should prevail in our societies often dehumanized.

Mary as a common spiritual figure
It is March 21 that we will all, this day will be that of the feast of the Annunciation, that is to say, that when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary the birth of Jesus. It is a very special day because under the aegis of a high spiritual figure, commonly venerated the Virgin Mary.

Islam, in fact, like Christianity, recognizes and professes the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. Furthermore, it also demonstrates the perfect sinlessness of Mary and her son Jesus. In Sura 3, verses 35 and 36 tell us: “(Remember) when the wife of Imran (Mother Mary) said:” Lord, I have vowed in all the exclusive fruit of my womb Accept. Me this offering, for you know and hear everything. ” Then when she gave birth, she said, “Lord, that I gave birth to a girl”; but God knew what she had just given birth! The boy is not like the girl. “I have named her Mary, and I place her and her offspring to Thy protection against Satan the stoned” A word of the Prophet recognized proves that this request was granted. “Satan touches every son of Adam the day where his mother gives birth, except Mary and only son. “In addition, his name is the title of a chapter of the Koran.

The Qur’an tells us that if God had wanted he would have made us one community, but that was not his choice. A verse enlightens us by saying that our diversity is a source of mutual enrichment. It is time to focus on our commonalities to the detriment of our differences that some cultivate with passion and which others benefit.

We must get out of this position of exclusion that made so many wrong at all; we must remember and return to the model of the Prophet Muhammad who, when he invited representatives of other civilizations used the verse saying: “Say, O ye People of the Book, come to a word common to us, to us as to you (…) “(Qur’an, s. 3, v. 64). Mary is common, it is about her, holy and blessed among women we, Muslims and Christians have a duty to meet. History shows that all periods of agreement and cooperation have delivered what humanity had to offer.

At the heart of the religious message: union
The choice is clear now the most pressing: let each of us tends an open hand to offer peace of God, for in the words of an Arab proverb, one hand can not clap or we let the gap widen and allow ignorance and violence to defeat us.

Do we really have a choice? Is it possible to conscious human right its purpose, whether humanist, agnostic, Christian, Jewish, Muslim … to remain indifferent? This task, this heavy task, our responsibility to all. The more we are the less it will be difficult to bear. But the number is not enough, it is together that this project was completed, it is the heart that we carry and it is by the grace of God that it will lead. Remember the verse teaches us that even though the Prophet had spent everything in the Earth, it could not unite the hearts, for it is God who unites hearts (Qur’an, s. 8, v. 63).

It is also important that each of us appears and takes his love for France, a country where we live together. A country where it is still live. This country-bearer of freedom, the freedom that is so dear to us and that we are ready to defend our commitment. The freedom that the great saint Junaid Baghdadi (d. 911) said that it is the highest spiritual station. It is necessary to look at ourselves and with a firm to walk together to save these gains often at the cost of blood. The same blood that should no longer run on behalf of our differences. The heart of the religious message, like that of the humanists, invites to the union, not separation, convergence rather than divergence.

This should be a start, we will need in the future to multiply these reconciliation brands and go further. Our group wants its approach Together with Mary be paid and distributed in Europe later. The highest levels must be entered to organize actions that will open a new era of harmonious coexistence and fruitful. All people of goodwill, all consciences are called here, is all we need to build the peaceful part of our society.

  1. What a gorgeous basilica! I could not understand more than a few words but what I did manage was that we have kindred spirits in France who are still in a position to meet and speak without being faced by laughter and fools and the utter ignorance we have over here in N. America.

  2. Thank you for the translation. That is one of the most beautiful passages ever! These people are too wise to allow such a gathering to get out of hand no matter how many provocateurs might be in their midst. A sister organization of sorts?
