Senior Hamas leader's sister hospitalized in Israel

Moussa Abu Marzouk’s sister is suffering from cancer and is in serious condition, Israel Radio reports.

Israel has allowed the sister of a senior Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip to enter the country for medical treatment, Israel Radio reported on Monday.

According to the report, Moussa Abu Marzouk’s sister, said to be in her 60s, is suffering from cancer and is in serious condition. She entered Israel two weeks ago, according to Israel Radio.

The report comes about two weeks after Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv confirmed that the daughter of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was admitted there for emergency medical treatment. She suffered complications during a routine procedure.

“She is one of more than 1,000 patients from the Gaza Strip and Palestinian Authority territories, children and adults, who we treat every year,” the hospital said in a statement at the time.

Abu Marzouk, a deputy chairman of Hamas’ political bureau a member of the Palestinian reconciliation delegation that negotiated indirectly with Israel both during and after this past summer’s Operation Protective Edge, wrote Sunday on his Facebook page that Israel’s explanation for its closing the crossings are invalid and violate the cease-fire.

He also said the closures constitute collective punishment of Gaza residents and violate international law.
