ed note–as much as this may appear to be nothing more than Trump’s appealing to the conservative base, it is entirely possible that there is something more to this that has not yet been explored.

By virtue of his position in the financial world, and with that, access to all sorts of ‘inside info’ vis a’ vis what those in the ivory towers know or are planning, Trump’s policy position not only as regards a nationwide permit to carry concealed weapons, but as well his position that law abiding Americans should be free to own whatever kind of weapon they want, including those ‘assault’ weapons utilized by the military and law enforcement, may also be tied to the kind of social unrest he (and the people behind him) knows is coming, something that would overwhelm the abilities of law enforcement and the military. In such a case, every able-bodied man would by default LEGALLY become part of the ‘militia’ as defined in the US Constitution, specifically Article II, Sec. 2, Clause 1, to wit–

‘The President shall be the Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States when called into the actual service of the United States.”

The militia that would be under his command is defined thus–

‘The organized militia defined by the Militia Act of 1903 consists of State militia forces, notably the National Guard and the Naval Militia. The ‘reserve militia’ are part of the unorganized militia as defined by the Militia Act of 1903 and consist of every able-bodied man of at least 17 and under 45 years of age who is not a member of the National Guard or Naval Militia. Former members of the armed forces are also considered part of the ‘unorganized militia’ per Sec 313 Title 32 of the US Code.’

The most popular small-arms weapon in the United States is the AR15 rifle, owned literally by millions of (for the most part) American men, which is a civilian version of the same M16/M4 rifle utilized by all branches of the US Armed forces and virtually all police departments. It uses the same ammo, same magazines, same accessories, same internal hardware and only differs from what is used by the USGOV and police agencies in that it is not fully automatic. Otherwise, as far as a ‘standardized weapon’ that would utilized by the ‘unorganized militia’ as laid out in the US Constitution being called into active service to deal with a breakdown in the system and the fact that those who today own AR15s are–by virtue of the inherent accuracy of the weapon paired with the skills that come as a result of extended practice with it–probably the best shooters on the planet, and thus, what we have here is a standing army of tens of millions.

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump — who said he has a concealed carry permit — called for the expansion of gun rights Friday, including making those permits applicable nationwide.

In a position paper published on his website Friday afternoon, Trump called for the elimination of gun and magazine bans, labeling them a “total failure.”

“Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of their choice. The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own,” Trump wrote.

It’s not a departure from what he’s said on the trail this year, though it does mark a shift from a position he took in his 2000 book “The America We Deserve,” where Trump stated that he generally opposes gun control but that he supported a ban on assault weapons and a longer waiting period to get a gun.

“Opponents of gun rights try to come up with scary sounding phrases like ‘assault weapons’, ‘military-style weapons’ and ‘high capacity magazines’ to confuse people,” Trump wrote Friday. “What they’re really talking about are popular semi-automatic rifles and standard magazines that are owned by tens of millions of Americans.”

Trump said in the paper he has a concealed carry permit. The permits, which are issued by states, should be valid nationwide like a driver’s license, Trump said.

“If we can do that for driving — which is a privilege, not a right — then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege,” Trump said.

Trump has apparently had a handgun permit for years; a 1987 Associated Press story said he had one at the time.

The real estate magnate called for expanding mental health treatment, saying that people with mental health issues who are violent must be off the street “before they can terrorize our communities.” Trump said the issue has been ignored.

“All of the tragic mass murders that occurred in the past several years have something in common – there were red flags that were ignored,” Trump said. “And why does this matter to law-abiding gun owners? Once again, because they get blamed by anti-gun politicians, gun control groups and the media for the acts of deranged madmen.”

Trump said when a tragedy happens gun control advocates will “immediately exploit it to push their political agenda,” and that the solutions they propose would have prevented the shooting.

Trump said the current background check system needs to be overhauled because “very few criminals are stupid enough to try and pass a background check” and get their guns illegally. Trump said that criminal and mental health records also must be included in background checks.

  1. Just the mention of “gun rights” and my fellow Canadians are, on the whole, appalled at the concept of even NEEDING to own a gun…. it elicits the same response, no exaggeration, as condoning pedophilia!… I have never even held a gun, but I sure would like to and hope to get the chance eventually.

But Trump is right. Not only that but consider that since the uptick in psychotic drugs and the closing of hospitals and facilities for the chemically unbalanced, gun violence has skyrocketed. Of course there is more to it than drugs as we have often discussed, but there is definitely some correlation between the absence of care for these folks and gun violence.

As for the vets. They fall into two categories more or less. Those who are still gung ho… and those who have seen the truth and are disillusioned. They are the ones to be feared…. because they know what they are up against.
