Putin and his circle know very well how the US works internally. They know Wall Street, AIPAC, history of the Fed Reserve , IMF, World Bank, etc.
Chinese leadership knows it inside and out as well.
To put an addendum to my comment ~ Putin’s strategy is not quite correct. It’s cumbersome, It’s burdensome, and it’s too expensive.
Instead of upgrading the Russian military with the latest super technology, he needs to invest in box cutters. And no need for super high tech underground command posts from which to operate from should all hell break lose. Just make a whole bunch of caves out in the mountains.
This is actually the best way to go. No matter how many billions have been invested in all kind of defense toys, gadgets, and gizmos……conducting a global war ( or in this case, a global defense ) is best done from deep in caves waaaaay back in the mountains.
If your electricity fails and you want to fire up your laptop, or you get a hankering for some Oolong tea all kicked back in your cave, just send the boys out to fetch some petrol and fire up the old generator. That’s what Usama bin Laden did and look at his success. Hell he didn’t need any fancy schmancy supers sonic anything. AND he was ill to boot.
